Formal Name: Liquidamber stryaciflua
Color: Sapwood tends to be wide and is white to light pink, while the heartwood is reddish brown, often with darker streaks.
Shade: Medium
Grain: Irregular grain, usually interlocked. It has a fine uniform texture.
Workability: Fairly easy to work and can be sanded and stained to a good finish.
Physical Properties: Moderately hard, stiff and heavy and has a low steam-bending classification.
Uses: cabinet making, furniture parts, doors, millwork, strips and mouldings, trunings and rail ties. Sometimes used as a substitute for walnut.
