Spanish Cedar


Formal Name: Cedrela odorata
Color: Uniform pinkish to reddish brown. Color darkens with age.
Shade: Medium
Grain: Straight-grained but can also be shallowly interlocked, with medium texture. Grain patterning and figure tends to be somewhat bland.
Workability: Works easily with both hand and machine tools. It is somewhat difficult to bore but has good nailing and gluing properties. Gums and oils can present a problem when polishing.
Physical Properties: Low density and softness. Wood is strong in relation to its weight with good dimensional stability. Moderately good steam bending characteristics.
Uses: premier wood used for cigar humidor interiors, in addition to veneer, plywood, cabinetry, musical instruments, boatbuilding
