Formal Name: Betula alleghaniensis, Betula lentu

Color: Sapwood appears light, with a cream-like or white color. Heartwood may be light reddish-brown or dark-brown tinged with red.

Workability: Works easily, glues well with care, stains extremely well, and nails and screws satisfactorily (pre-boring is advised).

Physical Properties: Generally lightweight, relatively hard wood with good shock resistance. Yellow birch is harder than other birches. Birch is comparable to Ash in toughness, with better strength properties.
