Color: Heartwood is typically a medium reddish brown with irregularly spaced streaks of dark brown to black. Sapwood is easily distinguished from the heartwood and is a brownish-white to gray. Color tends to darken this wood with age.

Shade: medium

Workability: Generally not too difficult to work, despite its high density. More figured pieces can be a challenge in machining. Pre-drilling for nailing and screwing is recommended though. Moderate blunting effect on cutters. This wood is very resistant to moisture absorption making it challenging to glue. It's recommended that the wood be pre-treated with a solvent prior to gluing. Wood turns well.
