Rosewood

Formal Name: Dalbergia stevensonii

Color: Yellow sapwood with an appearance distinctly different from the heartwood. The pinkish-brown to purple-brown tones of the heartwood appear in alternating dark and light streaks with black markings, creating a very attractive figure.

Shade: dark

Workability: Moderately difficult to saw and machine, and creates a blunting effect on tools. Pre-boring is necessary for nailing. Since the wood is sometimes very oily, it can be difficult to produce a good, even finish.

Physical Properties: Very hard, dense and oily wood, with a high shock resistance.

Interior/Exterior: both interior and exterior
