Formal Name: Juglans nigra

Color: Sapwood is creamy white, while the heartwood is light to dark chocolate brown, occasionally with a purplish cast and darker streaks. Walnut is usually supplied steamed to darken sapwood.

Shade: dark

Workability: Works easily with hand and machine tools, as well as nailing, screwing and gluing well.

Physical Properties: Tough wood with medium density, with moderate bending, shock resistance and crushing strengths and low stiffness. It has a good steam-bending classification.
